You will never be thin enough
Young enough

You will be defined as
The Girl-Next-Door with her fresh scrubbed face
The bitch with the cigarette in her black painted lips
The spunky grandmother who runs marathons
The hip mother who drives a sports car
The hardworking business woman in a smart suit
A tired, idealistic cliche
You will never be an individual

Woman's World part II-Football
Kate is standing behind Paul, a proprietorial arm
Draped around his neck.
He's wearing the necklaces she bought him,
gold and silver
still chains.
She leans forward to make her point
'Sorry love,
you can say what you like,
no one's gonna pay to watch boys play football.
It's all brute force, boring
no skill at all.'
Dave is earnest.
'Men don't get paid
anything like as much as women,' he says
'The captain of the England men's team
He works as a teacher, lives with his dad
He can't afford to train full time.

Failure at Femininity
Style your hair a certain way.
Dress a certain way.
Appearance is important.
But, isn't beauty in the eye of the beholder, anyway?

But, what's the point? Impressing someone?
Getting the job?
The notion is ridiculous.
We torture ourselves,
thinking that we have to be the next
Tyra Banks,
Heidi Klum,
Linda Evangelista,
Kate Moss.
But, why? Isn't natural

i killed the life between us
without a single glance
i'm a monster;

he's got
sand dollars for eyes,
and i'm scared that
some grains might catch in mine
and take away the moisture
in my tear ducts.
i've got a thousand words,
none were ever goodbye.
i've reached the climax,
can't turn around this time.
if only she knew,
(the truth.)
and he wears
his secrets like lightning,
cause he knows they could
crack open my sky;
if i'd take the time to look.
i know i hear a pulse,
but i couldn't have a heart.
i find myself running,
back to no one.

Yeah, it's another one of my feminist rant poems I'm getting so sick and fucking tired of the constant bombardment of television and magazine (if I bother to read them) ads that try to promote self esteem and being a modern woman juxtaposed beside an image of an airbrushed picture of a stick thin model in a $200 tank top.
I ain't buying it.
I ain't buying it.
